Volunteer: Dianas Daycare Center

Hey Devs,

So.. this post is not salesforce specific, but it’s still news in my opinion.

I have opportunely been recruited to create a small informational website for a daycare. I’ve done a bit of work for the daycare in its infancy stages in the past. They were going through the process of opening a center and needed help with sprucing up proposal documentation; making usable charts, doing light editing for clarity, and creating presentations. Now that they are opening their doors in the next few months creating a website is a natural next step.

Here are some of the common challenges with small businesses that I’m encountering:
  • No one is available or has the desire or skillset to create or manage the website
  • There is no IT budget
  • The owner has relied solely on word of mouth and an association membership for new business. (The new center will probably add an avenue of foot traffic.)
  • The owner does not trust the internet and this brave new world of social media and information gathering.

I’m sure many of you are thinking, well what’s the point of having a site? I think it there is still a lot of value to be had with a simple informational site:
  • Word of mouth can be supplemented by parents being able to find the daycare online.
  • Business cards will have more than an address and phone number on it.
  • Parents can get a feel for the centers offerings without making an appointment.
  • Parents can have a online schedule and calendar to check for daycare closings and field trips.
  • People could stumble upon the site and use the contact form leading to new enrollments.

All pros and cons aside, this is a fun small project to help out a local business.

Till next time
