First Assignment: Reporting with Conga

Hey Devs,

As you may have read, I had my first contracted assignment, which was to use Conga to create a merged spreadsheet that would be used to calculate ticket sales. The spreadsheet would spit out report data from 5-10 reports (because of excel row limits) that would then be totaled on Totals spreadsheet.

Of course I did not know how to do any of this with Conga, but I’ve had a lot of experience with Excel, and connectors, and writing that type of data using PHP, so conceptually I was ok. All I ended up doing was watching this Creating Excel Templates for Conga Composer tutorial on youtube, and pretty much all of the information that I needed to accomplish the task was revealed. I also took a look at Conga’s Index of Conga Composer Parameters which was also very helpful.

So, about 2 hours of research, 2 hours of analysis, and 6 hours of development and testing and now I’m finished. Not bad for my first gig. Oddly though, some of the report types or filters did not seem to work in the same manner, so I may follow up with Conga support to see what the deal is. All in all, Conga is pretty awesome.

Till next time.
